Independent Racing Series to Invade Rocky Top Raceway By: T. J. Layne COAL GROVE, OHIO-The Rocky Top Raceway is proud to announce that the Independent Racing Series will be invading Rocky Top on Friday, July 13th for the “Engines Inc./Carl Grover Motorsports 50” Late Model show. The race will pay $5,000 to win and $400 to start with an overall purse of $24,100, making it the highest paying race in Rocky Top Raceway history. The rain date for the event will be Friday, August 17th. The Independent Racing Series is preparing for it’s inaugural season in 2007 under the leadership of Dean Miracle, a veteran race series director. The series was brought out to fill the void left in the area when the Renegade DirtCar Series was bought out. So far the series has races scheduled in Ohio, West Virginia, Indiana, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and Maryland, visiting some of the top tracks on the east coast. The series will bring in several of the top Dirt Late Model drivers in the country to Rocky Top, including Hall of Famer Rick Aukland. The Rocky Top Raceway is also looking forward to having Engines Inc./Carl Grover Motorsports on board as title sponsor of the race. In addition to being the title sponsor of this race, Engines Inc./Carl Grover Motorsports will also be sponsors of all heat races ran at Rocky Top Raceway in 2007. The 2007 season at Rocky Top Raceway is fast approaching as Test N Tune will be on Saturday, April 14th with the Season Opener on Friday, April 20th. The completed 2007 schedule should be released very shortly. For more information go to www.rockytopraceway.net.

Yea, but a 50 laps it will probably take forever to get through. If there is a lot of cautions, we are looking at a 1-2 hour race. Possibly longer

Yea, but a 50 laps it will probably take forever to get through. If there is a lot of cautions, we are looking at a 1-2 hour race. Possibly longer We've ran 50 lap races at Rocky Top before and they have never taken over an hour to complete. The average time for a 50 lap race is about 45-55 minutes, if not less. You have to remember, the 24 car starting field for the 50 lap feature is going to be some of the best Dirt Late Model racers around. I can't tell you how many 50 lap features I have seen at a lot of other tracks and I would say the average number of cautions is four, with several having zero or one caution flag.

Rtrmodifiedfan87, you were right on this one. It took 56 minutes to run 40 laps in the Summer Sizzler. I never expected that many cautions and for this to happen, but you were right on this one.
