By: T. J. Layne
COAL GROVE, OH-Shawn Holliday Racing with driver John Melvin are preparing to start their 2008 campaign in a few short weeks at the Volusia Speedway Park in Barberville, Florida for the 37th annual “DirtCar Nationals”. The team is preparing to be in action for every night of the Late Model Speedweek which runs from February 11th through February 16th. The six nights of racing will include four UMP DirtCar sanctioned shows and two World of Outlaws Late Model shows.
This will mark what should be the beginning of a dynamic partnership in Dirt Late Model Racing between Holliday and Melvin. Holliday has been a very successful Late Model and Modified driver over the past several years taking his talents as far away as Australia. In 2007, Holliday posted two Late Model feature wins along with several top fives and a fourth place finish in Rocky Top Raceway point standings. But for 2008, Holliday will step out of the drivers seat to become car owner and crew chief of his Rocket Chassis powered by a Cogan Racing Engine #1pj.
Melvin is a six time Limited Late Model track champion at the Portsmouth Raceway Park In years past, Melvin has taken his Limited Late and finished in the top five and top ten of several Super Late Model races at various tracks. In a couple of races in the Holliday #1pj in 2007, Melvin posted a fourth place finish at Rocky Top Raceway and a fast time at Portsmouth Raceway Park. For years Melvin has been considered by his peers to be one of the best racers in southern Ohio as he is one of, if not the most, successful Limited Late driver in the history of the region.
With the combination of the flat out driving styles, knowledge, and resources that both popular Coal Grove, Ohio racers hold, expect the partnership to produce big results in 2008. For more information visit www.shawnholliday.com.
