Rocky Top Raceway releases 2010 schedule

COAL GROVE, OH-The Rocky Top Raceway is proud to release the much anticipated 2010 schedule. The 2010 schedule will have 19 races featuring a minimum of 8 different types of racing classes, making it the most diverse schedule in RTR history. Along with plenty of specials for the Late Models, AMRA Modifieds, Bombers, and Mod Lites, the 410 Sprint Cars, Enduro cars, 4 cylinders, and Flat Track Motorcycles will take to RTR in 2010.

“We‘re really happy with what we‘ve been able to do with the 2010 schedule”, stated RTR promoter T. J. Layne. “Whether it’s a special event race, a new class, a new twist to the racing program, or a special promotion, we are offering something special to the fans each night in 2010. We’re also hoping to make some announcements soon about some new things that have never been done before to get the fans really involved in the racing program each night.”

Several special event races will highlight the 2010 schedule. The biggest race of the season will take play on Friday, May 7th with an appearance by the Battle of the Bluegrass Late Model Series for the “Rocky Top 50” paying $5,000 to win. This race will be one of the marquee events on the Battle of the Bluegrass Series 2010 schedule. Another big race will be the “GCP Engines Showdown” on Friday, June 18th. This race is the make-up date from last fall’s “Fall Classic” and will feature a special event for each class. The purse for the Late Models has been increased to $4,000 to win while the AMRA Modifieds will pay $2,000 to win, Bombers $1,000 to win, and Mod Lites $500 to win.

The 2010 schedule also features many first time events. The 410 Sprint Cars will race for $3,000 to win on Saturday, May 29th in their first special at the track. 2010 will also see RTR’s first Enduro race in the “Rocky Top 100” on June 4th and the first ever appearance of the Flat Track Motorcycles. The Flat Track Motorcycles will run four exhibition races throughout the season with everything culminating on Saturday, August 21st in the “Southern Ohio Flat Track Championships”. More information on that event will be released later.

The 2010 racing season will get underway on Saturday, April 10th with the annual Test N Tune Day. Opening Night will be on Friday, April 16th with a full program of Late Models-$1,200 to win, AMRA Modifieds-$650 to win, Bombers-$350 to win, and Mod Lites-$300 to win (with 15+). Below is information on the All Star Clash. The fans have asked for a race like this, they have got it now!

-Regular admision, regular purses
Late Model and Modified format
-Run time trials and dash/heat races as usual to determine feature starting positions.
-Feature event will have 3 segments, total of 25 laps
-1st segment, 10 laps, will start race normal. $300 to win segment for LM’s and $200 for Mods.
-2nd segment, 10 laps. After the first segment, the caution flag will be thrown followed by the red flag. A pill will be drawn by the fans to invert the field 1-6. After field is inverted, will be a single file restart to start the 2nd segment. $300 to win segment for LM’s and $200 for Mods.
-3rd segment, 5 laps. After lap 20, a caution flag will be thrown. The field will lineup double file according to their running order after lap 20 to start the 3rd segment, a 5 lap dash for cash.
Bomber and Mod Lite Format
-Run heat races to start the feature field as normal.
-Feature events will have 2 segments, total of 16 laps.
-1st segment, 8 laps, will start race normal. $50 to win the first segment.
-2nd segment, 8 laps. After the first segment, the caution flag will be thrown followed by the red flag. A pill will be drawn by the fans to invert the field 1-6. After field is inverted, will be a double file restart to start the second segment.

*Note: The invert pills will have a 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6 in them. No multiple pills like they do at Eldora, one pill for each number. *

Rocky Top Raceway announces 2010 rules and payouts

COAL GROVE, OH-The Rocky Top Raceway is proud to announce several changes to the rules and an increased Late Model payout for the 2010 season. First, all drivers in each class in 2010 will be required to have a Raceceiver Radio. The Raceceiver Radios feature a one way communication between the tower and each driver. Raceceiver’s will be available each night at the track to rent or purchase. Drivers can also purchase the Raceceiver’s prior to the season starting by going to www.raceceiver.com. RTR recommend’s getting the Elite 1600 Pro because it provides the best sound quality.

“Making Raceceiver Radios mandatory will provide several benefits to both the drivers and the fans”, stated RTR promoter T. J. Layne. “This will make our show run much more smoother as this is expected to cut the number of caution laps in half and eliminate any waiting times between races. The Raceceivers also make things much safer for the drivers as the race director will be able to inform drivers immediately of a caution. With the decrease in caution laps, I also expect this to save racers money in fuel.”

Scales will be purchased and weight rules will be enforced in each division for 2010. The Late Model division will remain with the same rules (unsanctioned, open tire rule) but will have a minimum weight rule of 2,300 pounds. The Modified class will be AMRA sanctioned and run under AMRA rules for the 2010 season. The Mod Lite class will remain under T-USA rules.

There will be major changes for the Bomber class in 2010. The class will run under K-C Hobby Stock rules with a weight rule of 3,250 pounds for ALL cars. A complete copy of the 2010 RTR Bomber rules is posted on the website.

Payouts for the AMRA Modifieds, Bombers, and Mod Lites will remain the same in 2010. The Late Models will have a restructured and increased purse for 2010. In an effort to significantly increase car counts, $420 has been added to the overall Late Model purse from what it was in 2009. The complete payout is posted at the end of the press release.

“We’ve put a lot of thought into our 2010 Late Model payout”, stated Layne. “We hate to decrease the winners purse any, but there can only be one winner so we feel it is better to spread the money through the field and pay each position really strong. Many race teams have suggested a payout like this so we feel that this will increase our Late Model car counts significantly in 2010. We will also be looking for weekly sponsors to try to bump the winners purse up some more each week”

RTR tried the top heavy purse structure and it didn't work. The purse posted is an excellent purse for a Friday night track.

If the rumors I have been hearing are true I think you can expect the best season yet from RTR. If they can only get ma' nature to cooperate for a little while.
