It seems logical that greater respect would be attained from both sponsors and fans with a name change to the bomber class. Too much money is invested in this class to pursue sponsorship for a "bomber" class.

I think hobby stock sounds better when you are trying to get sponsers.

THIS IS THE ONLY WAY A GUY CAN FIND OUT IF HE REALLY WANTS TO RACE[OOPS OR GAL].MOST PPL. DON'T UNDERSTAND THE COST OF FIELDING A CAR FOR THE "BOMBER" CLASS. AN ENTRY-LEVEL CAR CAN BE PUT ON THE TRACK FOR ABOUT $5K. BUT TO BE COMPETETIVE,WE KNOW IT'S MORE LIKE $15K. AND YES,"BOMBER"SOUNDS LIKE A DEMO CAR.I THINK THEY SHOULD BE CALLED SOMETHING LIKE "ALTERED".ANY IDEAS,FOLKS?

I agree j...The term bomber may have been more descriptive when the class began, but it sounds like we dug these things out of the junk yard, stuck a smoking stock 350 motor in them, painted them with any paint we had around the house, including house paint, and when the motor blew or the door got dented...back to the junk yard. It's true we probably don't have the money invested in these that most of the modified guys or certainly the late models, but the cost to be competitive in this class continues to skyrocket. It would be alot easier to approach a potential sponsor without having to mention the word "bomber" Some people in the class may be proud of the name and I am not trying to pick a fight with them at all. I'm just saying, its hard to be taken seriously while the class is still called the bomber class.

Yeah, I agree with everyone. I mentioned that I'm in the "bomber" class to one of my buddies and his reply was "Oh... thats the old dinged up cars pulled off the street aint it?" And we know that you could buy a new car for what some of us have invested in these cars. I dont what people to have that kind of stereo-type that we have old junkyard decorations as race cars....

From what I can tell, the Bomber division is starting to loose a lot of the "junk car" stereotype and is being viewed as a class that features great racing, like the Late Model and Modified divisions. I know I really enjoy watching the Bombers as the class puts on some of the best racing week in and week out.
I think the fans are starting to notice this also as over the past few seasons I've noticed that a decent amount more people are staying to watch the Bomber features. And that's not just at Rocky Top, but also at Portsmouth and K-C. Most cars I see are painted up very nicely and they put on a great show so as I said, I think that stereotype is going away.
We really like the Bomber division at RTR and thank all of the drivers for putting on such good racing week in and week out. We look forward to what should be a great year with the class in 2007!!!

Thanks Layne...We appreciate the support. We work really hard on these cars and enjoy racing as much as anybody else there. Rocky Top has usually treated the 'bomber' drivers pretty well, but I have been to tracks where the class is viewed as the "wicked step children" or at best, a necessary evil. This is exactly why RTR is the only place we run. Things may be changing at some of the other tracks, but only after they have alienated a whole lot of drivers.

TJ,i really appreciate your support for our guys. Man,the season is rapidly approaching, and we[for one]are far from ready. By the way,you can expect several new additions to this class this year. [new ppl.] And,yes,I would like to see the purse increased for the top 2 spots. As far as I am concerned,if my guys never see the flag, the key is to pull more competition into rtr. more cars-more fans...comprendo? Hey keep up the good work, kid. we all appreciate you and all the work you put forth.

Thank you for the comments, I really appreciate them!!! All of us at RTR are working to make Rocky Top Raceway the place to be on Friday nights.
It does seem like there are a decent amount of new people getting into the Bomber division and that is great. I expect a lot of good things out of the class this upcoming season.
